And please remember, Black is good is a radical concept, but radical concepts are what create change. Keep fighting.

I had to tell my s.o’s sister that she’s allowed to say “black” because I was explaining black people’s hair and she’s like, “you know what I mean” and while I did I wanted her to be comfortable saying it. Now if she were to say blacks i’ma 👀🪓

^^ that *blacks* shit bout to get a lot of people hemmed tf up

The thing is that whether Britney is genuinely impaired or not, legally she is disabled, and whether the impairments that she’s claimed to have are real or not, the law has been treating her and will continue to treat her as disabled until something changes legally.

This is how disabled people are often treated (keeping of course the distances of her celebrity profile and massive estate). She shouldn’t have to not be legally disabled in order to have her civil rights guaranteed.

This is why disabled activists keep telling you guys to stop trying so hard to distance yourselves from disabled people. Someone can just decide one day to put on paper that you’re disabled regardless of how true that actually is and if a judge says okay to that then you’ll be just as fucked as the next disabled person.

The trick isn’t in trying to separate yourself from us, it’s in making sure that people get to retain their autonomy regardless of disability status.

Disabled rights are YOUR rights either right now or in the future.

the way people talk about type 2 diabetes, and specifically the way people talk about people who have type 2 diabetes…is pretty fucked

having diabetes is not a moral failure

Hey op you’re so right gd you’re so right like tw: ed but I have diabetes on both sides of my family (literally both of my parents are diabetic) making me more prone to blood sugar spikes and stuff and I was at the doctor last year and they found out I was insulin resistant and pre diabetic and told me I desperately needed to lose weight. That was the end of their advice: lose weight or you will become diabetic and die.

Anyway I lost fifty pounds in a year from relapsing in my ED and my blood sugar never stopped spiking and my insulin resistance never got better and I went to residential treatment and was like “no no I need to lose weight I need to lose weight or I’ll die” n they were like “why?” And I was like “I’m prediabetic and insulin resistant” and they told me

All I had to do was make sure I balanced sugary foods with protein.

I got out of treatment in april and have been having a handful of nuts with sweets and I had my A1C taken today and I’m no longer pre diabetic

The way doctors see type 2 diabetes and high weights as moral failings for which weight loss is the redemption is fucking insane. I wrote on my intake work I had a history of ED and she still didn’t hesitate to tell me to lose weight instead of telling me how to balance my macronutrients so that my blood sugar no longer spiked.

I love desire paths. There’s something so wonderous about seeing an echo of humanity. Depending on it’s location, a desire path can mean so many different things.

In a city, like the pic above, they represent rebellion, and efficiency. The messiness of humanity. We like to imagine we’re oh so logical and neat so we design our cities to be logical and neat an then real humans literally trample on that idea. The ego required to think you can design something perfect that checks every box. Life is all about compromise and patching stuff when some new problem arises. Though people have certainly tried! Ohio state univeristy let students carve their desire paths, and then paved them over. It looks pretty artsy.

image

Some people will try to discourage desire paths, but this is almost always going to fail.

image

Eventually, people just have to accept them. Humans are too dang stubborn.

image

Certain desire paths are just adorable. A 0.5 second time saver. You just can’t design for maximum efficiency, humans will always find shortcuts!

image

Though on occasion a desire path can actually be the least efficient way…especially if you’re superstitious.

image

In a wilder area, such as below, they show us the curiosity of humans. A desire path somewhere natural often tells you there’s something interesting just ahead. (Though remember some ecosystems are fragile and will suffer if trampled! Stick to paths in these sorts of areas)

image

And how about desire stairs? I always think these look so cool. We get see humans determination to climb, to traverse every kind of terrain.

image

And for something really crazy…a desire path used for centuries will create a ‘holloway’

image

All of these pics are off the Desirepath subreddit, check them out for more examples! And many thanks to the users who submitted these photos.

september is coming up so here’s your yearly reminder to leave billie joe armstrong the fuck alone

Well of course. We don’t wake him up until October 1st.

His dad is dead, just don’t.

In case anyone reading my blog is unaware, this is a reference to the Green Day song titled “Wake Me Up When September Ends” a song that Billie Joe Armstrong wrote following the death of his father in September of 1982 when Billie Joe was ten years old. The title of the song references his desire to sleep through September in an effort to get some emotional distance from the death of his father.

He’s since been open about the emotional difficulty of having written the song since many people now message him on October 1st to ‘wake him up’ despite the song being a memorial to his departed father.

It’s generally seen as respectful to not try to wake him up. Let him sleep and let him remember his father in peace.

reblogging again because the end of September is coming up. leave him alone.

Reblogging as a reminder to leave Billie Joe Armstrong the fuck alone on October 1st and any day after it if your message is going to contain anything to do with “waking” him up because September will be over.

People are fucking unbearable! I never knew any of these things because I just don’t know that man like that, but what in the actual fuck is WRONG with folk bothering that man? He don’t even know y'all. Please leave that goddamn man alone. This is disgusting.
